Hyundai Kona Electric receives Australia’s Good Design Award

Full electric and sporty cars honoured.

Hyundai’s first small electric SUV has been awarded 2019’s Good Design Award Best in Class Accolade in the Product Design at The Star Sydney on Thursday, along with other vehicles.

The Kona Electric has been given the highest honour for design and innovation in the country at the 61st annual Good Design Awards Ceremony.

The expert jury spent several days evaluating products covering the criteria of ‘good design’, ‘design innovation’ and ‘design impact.

The Good Design Awards Jury praised: “The Kona delivers such impressive range and performance, along with clearly well-thought out styling cues in an uber-popular compact SUV body style, will only add to its appeal.”

“Kona is an aspirational EV for the masses and Hyundai has equipped it with an impressive mix of safety and technology features at an attainable price.”

Unlike the gas-powered Kona, the EV guise brings aerodynamic wheels, the option for a white or black roof, a closed-off honeycomb grille with a hidden charging port, and available stone grey/blue interior.

The crossover competed with close to 700 submitted design projects this year.

Meanwhile, the Fusion Capital Advanced Mobility Hub organisation also received the Best in Class honour, while the Tesla Model 3 received a runner-up Gold Winner award.

Additionally, the Renault owned Alpine A110 coupe and the revived BMW Z4 convertible got the inferior ‘Winner’ award from Good Design Australia.
