2019 Honda Accord arrives in Australia (finally)

The long-awaited sedan.

Honda Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the 10th generation Accord sedan, more than two years after its debut.

The flagship sedan will arrive in December 2019 with only one model and two engines.

Available in either VTi-LX or VTi-LX Hybrid guises, both models carry the same equipment with the only differentiator being the engine.

From $47,990 (plus on-road coasts), the VTi-LX is powered by a 1.5-litre direct-injected turbo outputting 140kW and 260Nm of torque, with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that is derived, but re-tuned, from the Civic and CR-V.

Stepping up to the $50,490 (plus on-road costs) VTi-LX Hybrid — as the name suggests — scores a 2.0-litre petrol with two electric motors making 158kW and 315Nm, claiming 4.3L/100km combined fuel economy.

The Accord offers all features as standard on both models, including keyless entry and start; Honda’s latest 8-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Qi wireless charging; 18-inch alloys; leather seats; a sunroof; and a head-up display projected onto the windscreen.

The 10th generation large sedan is 26mm shorter but has a 55mm longer wheelbase and a 12mm wider body, also yielding a 570-litre boot.

Safety-wise, the Honda Sensing suite provides autonomous emergency braking; blind-spot monitoring with Honda’s LaneWatch camera system that displays the blind-spot view on the infotainment system when indicating; rear cross-traffic alert; driver attention monitoring; a surround-view camera; and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines; and parking sensors.

Inside, the automaker says the all-new Accord is quieter as well with better sealing, insulation, sound-absorbing carpet, acoustic windscreen glass, and even active noise cancellation.

It is available in five subdued colours with the pearlescent Passion Red only offered on the topping hybrid variant — all are no cost.

As with all Honda’s, the Accord includes a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty and 6-year rust protection program.

The Honda Accord competes with the unappreciated likes of the Mazda 6, Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb, and Hyundai Sonata.
