No more Elantra: Hyundai Australia to market the new generation as i30 Sedan

A slight rearrangment.

Hyundai Australia has revealed the forthcoming seventh generation Elantra will locally be called the i30 sedan, instead.

For nearly 20 years, the Elantra badge has been globally universal — except South Korea where it is still called Avante — but the Australian line-up will now be more consistent, in line with the i30 hatchback.

The United States currently adopts a similar strategy where the i30 is called the Elantra GT, labelling it under the same small car branch as the Elantra sedan.

The nameplate has been in Australia since 2001 with the third generation ‘XD’ model.

Despite already selling the 1995 ‘J2’ second generation, it was previously called “Lantra” due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante.

Arriving later this year, the Hyundai i30 Sedan is teased to debut a new “parametric dynamics” design language, making the sedan have a wider presence, and an “Immersive Cocoon” interior.

The new model comes just one year after the sixth generation facelift was released, which sparked design controversy.

The new i30 Sedan will be revealed on Wednesday, 18 March, through an online livestream.
